AAT is widely recognised, but it is not the only route into bookkeeping.
Some employers ask for AAT because it is familiar and gives them a simple way to assess theoretical knowledge. Practical skills, software confidence and an understanding of real workflows are also important.
The right route depends on whether you want employment, freelance work or your own practice.
